Heart Pursuer

[When You said], "Seek My face," My heart said to You, "Your face, LORD, I will seek." Psalm 27:8 NKJV

Have you ever faced challenges in your life that seem to get the best of you?
That cause you to think differently about yourself, your life? Provoking all kinds of questions?

Well King David faced many challenges in his lifetime. The one that comes to mind at this very time is when his own son rises up against him. The King's son Absalom, was one of many. He was the third son born to him. Absalom was a "good" son until jealousy and revenge entered his heart (2 Samuel 13-15) . Absalom's rage turn into rebellion. It was so intense it caused the King to flee his own land for Absalom desired to overthrow his father. He had built up a force of followers that would come along side him to pursue his father. They were the same people that called David, king.

It may appear to some that David, the one that slew lions, bears and the Philistine, Goliath, was acting out of character. After all David was  victorious in battles.  When we look closely we will see that in fact David was being himself .  David knew how to seek the face of God. David was considered a "man after God's heart" (Acts 13:22). Sure he messed up a few times but David didn't let that get in his way nor did he allow his "mess ups" to define his relationship with God.  As David found himself in the position of opposition he continually sought  God . He sought God's wisdom, strength and encouragement. Many of the psalm were written during his times of opposition.

He knew that his victories were found in God (1 Samuel 17:45-47). He understood that it wasn't his techniques and or strategies that made him victorious but it was knowing the promises of God. David had a way of reminding God of his promises that captured God's attention. David had faith. His faith grew out of obedience to God which was a result of seeking the presence of God and maintaining a relationship with Him.

The Word of God didn't say my life had to be perfect to be enjoyed. And I praise God that it does require me to be perfect to experience the perfecting work of God in my life.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV says it best:

And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

So as you face the challenges of today that may be screaming for your attention, seek God. As your thoughts are flooded with uncertainties, seek God. As you find yourself struggling with discouragement, seek God. The directions you seek are found in the applicable Word of God. Your comfort is found in Him, the Holy Spirit. Your strength to endure is found in the joy of the Lord, which is the joy of your salvation.
Seek Him and Find Him.
Be one after God's heart.

Development 101

Development doesn't only apply to our physical growth but our spiritual growth as well. Development is progressive. I cannot remain in the infant stage because I like being feed from a bottle. Nor can I remain an adolescent just because, that would be consider developmentally delayed.  No, each stage progresses naturally into the next. The same is true with our spiritual development.

Each stage has its own set of skills that must be mastered. Mastering the skills may prove to be difficult or viewed as an obstacle during the attempt to master them. A healthy development does not allow the difficulty or obstacle to deter progress. We were intelligently design by God to progress. Our development leads to our capabilities.

So as we face obstacles in life, view it as yet another opportunity to further develop our Faith.
Yes, it is challenging. You may make mistakes along the way. It may even seem impossible. It is all apart of development.

Mark 9:23 (NIV)
“ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.

Mark 10:27 (KJV)
And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

The development of my faith is necessary for it determines my capability. If my faith is as a mustard seed, able to move mountains imagine what it can do as a plant. The truth is many of us have not even reached "mustard seed" faith.  We are developmental delayed. We have allowed the difficulties and obstacles that are attached to the next stage of Faith to deter us from progressing.

Believe; put your Faith in GOD. Seek his guidance as you go through the stages of development. Keep your focus on the fact that He wants the best for you.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Perfect Getaway

"There are still so  many things to be done."
" I am becoming overwhelmed."
" I just need a break."
" Can someone just push the pause button on life?"
Or as the old bubble bath commercial theme line stated, "Calgon, take me away!"

Life may bring a varied array of excitement and disappointment. There are times when it seem as if we ourselves have no control over what life brings.  There always seem to be more to do and not enough done. Even those who thrive in having many things to do get tired, get weary, and have a need for a getaway.

Well allow me to share with you the "Perfect Getaway". Don't worry, this is not a sales pitch, because this getaway has no dollar value. It fits into every budget plan. It starts with a desire that encourage you to move your thoughts into actions. The action is an earnest seeking of the LORD.

Psalm 27: 4-6 Message Bible
I'm asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I'll contemplate his beauty; I'll study at his feet. That's the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic.God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I'm headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I'm singing God-songs; I'm making music to God.

Earnestly seeking (inquiring, desiring, craving, having a vital need for) the LORD, leads me into the presence of the LORD. In the presence of the LORD my perspective change. What I couldn't see before, I can now see clearly. What I saw as threatening, I now see it's beauty. It was in my seeking that I turned my faith towards the LORD. I began to say, "If only I can get into his presence all things will become possible." (Matt.19:26, Mark 9:23) As I settle down in his presence I am able to truly rest in Him, no longer being distracted by the circumstances of my life. I regain the focus that He that holds me up. It is in His presences and as I study at His feet, that I am awaken to who He says I am. I am not who others or my circumstances project me to be.

I am rejuvenated .
I am refreshed.
I am His.

SEEK HIM

Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD,and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.Isaiah 55:6-7

And ye shall seek me,and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

Seek ME and you will Find ME! If you truly seek me! I am not lost nor am I hidden from you. For I am omnipresent, I am everywhere all the time! But to find me you must truly seek me. To look  for me is to only direct your attention towards me, to adjust your focus; to identify the need for me.

Oh but to seek the LORD requires more than just an adjusted focus. It is to direct my action in His direction. The word seek implies that there is a desire that draws you to investigate; to study in order that you find that which you crave. To seek is to ask or demand for someone or something.

The LORD says that you will “…find me, when you search for me with all your heart.” The very presence of the Lord is found when sought with the whole heart. In other words the essence of who God is will be revealed as we“reveal our true selves”. You know the one no one else fully know; the secret passions of our hearts and the seat of our appetites that move us to do what we do. I am talking about our innermost, our soul. It is the place where our mindset is; where our will is; where our emotions and understanding are. The soul is also the place that has the ability to sway back and forth (one moment I am walking in the Spirit the next I am walking after the flesh and its desires). That’s the thing God seeks from us. We are to redirect those things and move them towards Him not run and hide them from Him.

When we direct more than just a mental understanding of God and a need for or a lack of his presence in our lives and begin to truly desire Him enough to investigate his whereabouts. We begin to reveal the seat of our passions and desires to Him.Then we will find Him. When we become real enough with God then He will in turn become even more real to us.  As a result of revealing ourselves to Him in humble submission (giving all that we are; our thoughts, desires, passions, will and understanding) His mercy towards us is extended. That is when we find Him.

What do you seek?

God is GOD

In many church social circles people often say "God is good".  And this is true but God is God regardless of your opinion of what is good. I have chosen not to minimize God to my ideology of what is good or not. I don't want to limit  my relationship with God to only what He can do for me. Instead, I choose to worship and serve  God because He is God! God of the universe! The God whose love is so great that it "removed" a multitude of sin (1 Peter 13:8, Hebrews 9:28)

Here is a song that I'd like to share with you that I was just introduced to. I enjoy it because it reminds me of God's love for me. I pray it blesses you as well.

EVEN MORE

Listen, let me tell you something
Shhhh, just listen

I Love You
I Love you more than anything
More than anything you could ever do for me
More than anything you could become

My love is everlasting
Even when you stepped out on me I continued to love you.
When you chose another:
Your mother, your father, your husband, your wife, your children, your sister, your brother, your  pastor, your leaders, your career, you status, your ministry, your house, your cars, your addictions, your relationships...
I continued to love you

As a matter of fact I loved you even more...

It was in the "even more" love that my mercies were poured out on you.
It was in the "even more" love that I kept you from dying.
It was in the "even more" that I payed a high price for the return of your love for me.

Your love for me... an unshakable, unstoppable, unashamed, unadulterated love is all I have ever wanted from you...
No matter what, I will continue to love you "even more"

"But you walked away from your first love - why? What's going on with you, anyway?      . (Revelation 2:4 MSG)
